As part of Chewy's SmartPak business, Chewy is seeking an Automated Lead Maintenance Technician to support the reliability, maintenance, and continuous improvement of automated material handling systems, facility infrastructure, and production equipment at our Plymouth, Massachusetts operation.
This is a non-exempt (hourly), onsite individual contributor role that serves as the senior technical resource on shift. While this position does not have direct supervisory responsibility, it provides technical leadership, mentors Maintenance Technicians, assists with work
prioritization, and partners closely with Operations, Engineering, Environmental Health & Safety, and Facilities leadership to maximize equipment reliability and operational performance.
The successful candidate will combine advanced troubleshooting skills, strong mechanical and electrical knowledge, and a continuous improvement mindset to support SmartPak's warehouse, production, fulfillment, and automated systems.
What You’ll Do:
Perform advanced preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on automated material handling equipment, conveyor systems, AutoStore automation, production equipment, and facility infrastructure.
Troubleshoot complex electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and control system failures to quickly restore equipment to service.
Serve as the primary technical resource for Maintenance Technicians by providing guidance, coaching, and technical support during complex repairs and troubleshooting activities.
Mentor and develop less experienced technicians through hands-on training, knowledge sharing, and demonstration of maintenance best practices.
Support preventive maintenance planning and execute reliability-centered maintenance activities to improve equipment uptime and reduce recurring failures.
Perform root cause analysis on equipment failures and recommend corrective actions that improve long -term reliability.
Troubleshoot motors, VFDs, sensors, encoders, photo eyes, relays, proximity switches, motor starters, and associated control devices.
Support troubleshooting of PLC-controlled equipment and automated systems while partnering with engineering resources when necessary.
Maintain AutoStore robotic systems through inspections, preventive maintenance, cleaning, calibration, and troubleshooting activities.
Read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, technical manuals, and equipment documentation.
Utilize CMMS software to accurately document work orders, labor, downtime, corrective actions, and parts usage.
