Position Description:
The Batch Maker/Compounder is responsible for preparing, mixing, and processing raw materials into bulk batches for liquid personal care products in accordance with batch records, formulation instructions, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). This role ensures product quality, consistency, and compliance through accurate material handling, precise execution of batch procedures, and adherence to safety and sanitation standards.
The Batch Maker/Compounder plays a critical role in production by operating mixing equipment, verifying raw materials, completing required documentation, and maintaining a clean and compliant manufacturing environment. In other industries, this role is commonly known as Batch Maker, Mixer, Mixing Operator, Blending Operator, Batching Technician, or Chemical Operator. Candidates with batching, mixing, or blending experience in food, beverage, chemical, household products, or pharmaceutical manufacturing are encouraged to apply.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Batch Preparation & Processing
Prepare and stage raw materials according to batch records and production schedules.
Execute compounding operations including weighing, measuring, sequencing, mixing, and phase additions.
Operate and monitor blending/compounding equipment per established procedures.
Perform in-process checks and sampling as required.
Weigh and dispense raw materials using calibrated scales and balances.
Charge (load) raw materials into mixing tanks, kettles, or vessels in the specified order.
Monitor and adjust process parameters such as temperature, mixing speed, and mixing time.
Heat and cool batches as required by formulation instructions.
Operate equipment such as mixers, agitators, homogenizers, and transfer pumps.
Transfer completed bulk to holding tanks, totes, or containers for filling.
Material Control & Verification
Pull raw materials from inventory using work orders or pick lists.
Follow FIFO (first in, first out) inventory practices.
Properly label materials, intermediates, and bulk product.
Read and understand Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
Documentation & Compliance
Accurately complete batch records and production documentation in real time.
Follow GMP/cGMP requirements and internal quality standards.
Record and report deviations, discrepancies, or process issues.
Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Good Documentation Practices (GDP).
Record weights, lot numbers, times, and temperatures accurately on batch records.
Coordinate with Quality Control for batch sampling and approval.
Equipment Cleaning & Area Maintenance
Perform tank and vessel washdowns per approved cleaning SOPs.
Complete cleaning and sanitation logs.
Safety & Operational Support
Follow Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and Hazard Communication (HazCom) procedures.
