Idaho Power — located in vibrant Boise, Idaho — is looking for a Control Equipment Technician I or II to join our Power Supply team. It’s an exciting time to work for Idaho Power. What does a Control Equipment Technician I or II do for us?
The Control Equipment Technician I or II supports the technology that monitors and controls the grid across Idaho Power’s service territory by combining power systems, automation, communications, networking, and cybersecurity. The role designs, configures, integrates, installs, commissions, troubleshoots, maintains, and calibrates a wide variety of supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems and substation intelligent electronic equipment. The technician develops and maintains the systems and interfaces that provide critical data, monitoring, alarm annunciation, and control capabilities to system operators. Additionally, the role supports the design, installation, and maintenance of operational technology and data center infrastructure, enhancing grid reliability, enabling modernization initiatives, and ensuring compliance with North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) standards and documentation requirements.

A COMPETITIVE CANDIDATE WILL HAVE
Knowledge of:
Electricity and electronics
Applied mathematics
Computer operating systems (Windows and Linux fundamentals)
Digital and analog communications systems
Industrial control systems (ICS) and SCADA architectures
Computer networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP networking concepts
Data acquisition and telemetry systems
Cybersecurity principles for operational technology (OT) environments
Technical documentation and configuration management practices
Preferred:
o Basic programming and scripting principles
o Networking fundamentals and protocol analysis
o Data analysis
o Various digital communications protocols (DNP, Modbus, SEL, etc.)
o Working knowledge of other department’s IEDs (Schweitzer, Beckwith, Modicon, Bitronics, ION)
Skills in:
Troubleshooting electrical, electronic, communications, and control systems
Operating electronic test equipment and diagnostic tools
