Join Oakland County as a Data Processing Equipment Operator and help support the technology County teams rely on every day. What You’ll Do - Operate computers and related equipment to process moderately complex programs and assist with highly complex programs - Monitor system consoles, identify issues, and make adjustments or take corrective action - Help users with technical questions and guide less experienced operators - Use County and department software to complete assignments - Work assigned day, afternoon, or midnight shifts, which may include weekends and holidays - Perform work that may require exerting approximately 50 pounds of force Why You’ll Love It Here - Help keep County systems running - Build your technical skills while working with a variety of programs and equipment - Collaborate with users and fellow operators to solve problems Minimum Qualifications EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Be a high school graduate or have a certificate of successful completion of the General Educational Development Test; AND Have had three (3) years full-time experience operating large scale mainframe or server computers with multiprocessing, teleprocessing and all associated peripherals. Pass the complete examination, including the employment medical, established for the class of Data Processing Equipment Operator II. Successfully complete the six month probationary period. ADDITIONAL DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS Considerable knowledge of the operation of IBM computers and peripheral equipment. Considerable knowledge of the methods and techniques employed in recording, interpreting, and tabulating data through the use of a computer.
