CUNY Comprehensive Access to Resources and Essential Services (CUNY CARES) seeks to implement and evaluate a new approach to integrated, comprehensive, student-centered health and social services for CUNY students. CUNY CARES seeks to demonstrate that meeting the unmet needs of students for food, housing, health care, and mental health services leads to improved educational and life outcomes. From 2023 to 2026, CUNY CARES served the 24,000 students attending CUNY’s three Bronx campuses: Lehman, Bronx Community, and Hostos Community Colleges. An evaluation of this Bronx Demonstration Project is now being completed. From FY 2026 to FY 2029, CUNY CARES 2.0 will expand selected components of the model to CUNY’s five other community colleges, continue to develop and strengthen Bronx campus services and partnerships and gather the evidence needed to make evidence-based decisions on scaling CUNY CARES.
The CUNY CARES Director of Evaluation will implement and provide overall direction to the evaluation of CUNY CARES. Located within the CUNY Office of Transformation and co-sponsored by the three Bronx campuses and the CUNY School of Public Health, CUNY CARES seeks to link students to health care, mental health, food security, housing by connecting them to campus services, community health care and social services providers, and public benefits such as SNAP and Medicaid. The position is available by December 1, 2026. CUNY CARES is led by the CUNY’s Chief Transformation Officer with additional technical support and guidance from the various Central Office and campus faculty and staff.
The Director of Evaluation will be expected to take on these tasks:
1. Oversee and direct a systematic assessment of CUNY CARES 2.0 that documents its progress and problems in implementation; evaluates its impact on student well-being and academic success; and provides evidence to inform scaling and sustainability of the program across CUNY campuses.
2. With the CUNY CARES Benefits Hub Director, design and implement an impact evaluation of the Benefits Hub, a component of CUNY CARES that connects students to public benefits.
3. Assist CUNY CARES investigators to complete the evaluation of the Bronx Demonstration Project
4. Design, administer, and analyze annual surveys of samples of CUNY students to track progress towards key CUNY CARES indicators.
5. Serve as liaison with funders, CUNY administrators, CUNY Office of Applied Research, Evaluation, and Data Analytics…
