A Day in Your Life at MKS:
As a Principal Electrical Engineer at MKS Instruments within Vacuum Products, you will lead the design and development of embedded electronic hardware platforms that enable precision flow, pressure, and process control solutions for industrial and semiconductor applications. You will partner with cross-functional engineering teams including firmware, systems, quality, and product management to develop robust, high-performance electronic solutions from concept through production. In this role, you will report to the Director of Engineering.
You Will Make an Impact By:
• Leading the architecture, design, and development of mixed-signal embedded electronic systems for industrial instrumentation products.
• Designing precision analog, low-noise sensor interface, and power management circuitry for measurement and control applications.
• Developing microcontroller-based hardware supporting Analog I/O, RS-485, EtherCAT, Modbus/TCP, PROFINET, and other industrial communication interfaces.
• Driving schematic capture, component selection, design reviews, PCB layout oversight, laboratory validation, and root-cause analysis.
• Leading compliance-focused design activities to meet EMC and regulatory requirements, including ESD, EFT, conducted/radiated emissions, and immunity standards.
• Providing technical leadership across cross-functional teams, collaborating with firmware engineers to optimize system performance, mentoring engineers, and supporting products from concept through production.
Skills You Bring:
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (Master's preferred).
• 3+ years of experience designing embedded electronic hardware and PCB-based systems for industrial or commercial products.
• Strong mixed-signal design experience, including low-noise analog, sensor signal conditioning, and microcontroller-based systems.
• Deep understanding of closed-loop control systems, including sensor interfaces, measurement accuracy, control performance, and system-level optimization.
• Knowledge of EMI/EMC design practices and compliance testing.
• Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, technical leadership, and mentoring skills.
Preferred Skills:
• Experience developing embedded electronic systems for industrial instrumentation, automation, sensing, or control applications.
• Familiarity with industrial communication protocols such as EtherCAT, Modbus/TCP, PROFINET, CAN, or RS-485.
• Experience with closed-loop control systems, EMI/EMC design practices, and regulatory compliance testing.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
• Ability to sit and work at a computer workstation for extended periods.
• Ability to use laboratory equipment and occasionally lift and move electronic equipment or test fixtures up to 25 pounds.
• Work is performed in office and engineering laboratory environments.
• Regular use of electronic test equipment and prototype hardware for product development, validation, and troubleshooting activities.…
