About This Position The Electrician II position plays a vital role in maintaining and repairing electrical systems across various City of Austin facilities, including EMS and Fire Stations. This position involves a range of electrical tasks, collaborating with facility managers and staff. This includes maintenance, repairs, inspections, and coordination of electrical work in City of Austin buildings. If you’re looking for a job that utilizes your exceptional electrical skills, this is the perfect opportunity for you!   Job Description: Electrician II Purpose: Under general supervision, this position leads and performs tasks in repair, installation, maintenance, and testing of electrical equipment and circuits. Duties, Functions and Responsibilities: Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned. Pulls wire, conduit, cable, etc. Connects power cables to equipment, including generators, alarm systems, lighting systems, etc. Conducts on-the-job training. Assigns duties and monitor task completion. Uses various electrician hand tools, including snips, screwdrivers, pliers, wire cutters, etc. Operates soldering tools. Reads profiles and blueprints. Measures, cuts, and bends wire and conduit using rulers and hand tools. Installs wire, conduit, coaxial cable, etc. Installs conductors. Splices electrical wiring, including stripping insulation, twisting wires together, soldering tape, appling terminal caps, etc. Operates various power saws, such as radial arm, skill, etc. Operates drills, buffers, grinders, sanders, etc. Operates electronic testing equipment. Responsibilities - Supervisor and/or Leadership Exercised: None. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed. Knowledge of basic electricity. Knowledge of safety rules and procedures when working with energized electrical equipment. Knowledge of building codes applicable to level of construction. Knowledge of equipment tools and materials used in electrical maintenance and construction. Skill in the use of hand tools common to the electrical trade. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings and schematics Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus three (3) years experience in repair, testing, maintenance or installation or electrical systems or equipment. One (1) additional year of relevant work experience may substitute for one (1) year of the required education, with a maximum substitution of four (4) years. Licenses and Certifications Required: Appropriate licensing may be required.
