Job Title: Production Shift Engineer
Department: Production Industry: Automotive Components Manufacturing Reporting To: Production Manager Location: Plant 3 Bangalore
Job Purpose
The Production Shift Engineer is responsible for managing end‑to‑end production activities during the assigned shift to achieve safety, quality, delivery, and productivity targets in line with organizational and customer requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Production & Operations
Manage and monitor daily production activities during the shift to meet planned output targets.
Ensure optimum utilization of manpower, machines, and materials.
Coordinate with PPC for production schedules and priorities.
Ensure minimal downtime and quick resolution of production issues.
Quality Assurance
Ensure adherence to quality standards and customer requirements.
Implement and follow IATF 16949 , Control Plans , SOPs , and work instructions .
Monitor rejection levels and lead root cause analysis (RCA), corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
Support audits (internal, customer, third-party).
Maintenance & Equipment
Coordinate with maintenance teams for breakdowns, preventive maintenance, and corrective actions.
Ensure implementation of TPM , OEE improvement , and machine health monitoring.
Follow up on tool changes, setup approvals, and process stability.
Manpower Management
Allocate operators and technicians as per production requirements.
Train operators on safety, quality, and standard operating procedures.
Monitor attendance, discipline, and skill mapping during the shift.
Safety & Compliance
Ensure compliance with EHS , safety standards, and statutory requirements.
Conduct safety talks and ensure proper use of PPEs.
Identify and eliminate unsafe conditions and practices.
Continuous Improvement
Drive Kaizen , 5S , Lean Manufacturing , and productivity improvement initiatives.
Track and improve KPIs such as OEE, cycle time, rejection, and absenteeism.
Participate in cost reduction and efficiency improvement projects.
Documentation & Reporting
Maintain daily production reports, shift handover details, and breakdown logs.
Communicate shift performance, issues, and action plans to the next shift and management.
Ensure proper documentation and data accuracy.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
Production output vs plan
OEE and machine utilization
Rejection and rework levels
Downtime and breakdown response
Safety incidents (Zero Accident Goal)
Shift discipline and adherence
Qualifications & Experience
Education: Diploma / BE / BTech in Mechanical, Production, Automobile, or related engineering discipline.
Experience: 2–6 years of experience in automotive component manufacturing (machining, grinding, heat treatment, assembly, etc.).
Skills & Competencies
Strong understanding of manufacturing processes
Knowledge of IATF 16949, 5S, Lean, TPM
