Job Description:
Primary Purpose
The Health Undergraduate Advisor advises undergraduate students within the Faculty of Health. In partnership with the members of the Health Undergraduate Office (HUO) they are responsible for the effective administration of Health undergraduate programs and for enhancing student success through appropriate advisement and support. The Health Undergraduate Advisor is the first point of contact for the HUO. The role is intended to strengthen student advising capacity during a pilot period of increased undergraduate demand and to provide continuity of service across participating units.
The incumbent provides confidential academic advice and first-line student support; interprets and applies undergraduate regulations, program requirements, and Faculty/University policies; supports students navigating course selection, enrolment, progression, academic standing, petitions, appeals, plan changes, co-op/regular stream questions, and degree requirements; and refers complex or non-routine matters to the appropriate unit academic lead, program manager, Associate Chair/Associate Director, Associate Dean, Registrar’s Office, or student support service. This design draws directly from the KHS and SPHS USG 6 models, where academic advising includes policies, academic standings, appeals, petitions, grievances, student crisis support, progression review, and records management.
Key Accountabilities
Cross-unit academic advising
• Provides academic information related to the various majors in the Faculty of Health;
• Advises students on degree requirements, course selection, course sequencing, academic regulations, and progression, including complex or non-routine academic questions;
• Reviews student progress at midterm and after completion of the first term to identify students who may be at academic risk and shares relevant information with Program Managers to support timely follow-up and coordinated student support;
