Job Description
Position Overview: The Surgical Technologist handles the instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure. He/She has an understanding of the procedure being performed and anticipates the needs of the surgeon. The Surgical Technologist ensures quality patient care during the operative procedure and is constantly on vigil for maintenance of the sterile field. He/She assists in the preparation of the room before surgery and is accountable for all items required for their surgical table, including all required instrumentation and sutures.
Expectation is for all performed duties to be in accordance with Singing River Health System procedures and policies, accreditation organization, and governing guidance and publications for health care employees.

Education: High school graduate or equivalent required. Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program preferred.
License: N/A
Certifications: Current Surgical Technologist Certification preferred.
Must complete and maintain BCLS certification upon hire and/or transfer.
Must have de-escalation training completed by the end of position orientation (90 days); must have appropriate level of de-escalation training.
Experience: Prior experience as a Surgical Technologist preferred.
Reports to: OR Lead Coordinator and Patient Care Manager.
Supervises: None
Physical Demands: Work involves using many physical motions in performing daily work activities. Work is moderately active: involves standing with frequent requirements to move about the office, move about the facility, and to travel to another facility within the SRHS service area. Work involves exerting a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Employee is responsible for safely moving, lifting and handling all supplies, equipment and patients, with assistance. Safe lifting practice is expected in all areas of job performance and employees are responsible to request help whenever needed, regardless of the weight, using available assistance, i.e., lifting devices or additional staff.
