The Opportunity
Allegro MicroSystems is seeking a highly skilled and experienced SQL Server Database Administration Manager to join our IT/TDS team. In this role, you will be responsible for the performance, integrity, and security of our enterprise databases. You will take a lead role in database troubleshooting, and optimization, ensuring that our critical data systems operate at peak efficiency with maximum up time. You will also mentor other team members and collaborate closely with software developers, system administrators, and business stakeholders.
What You Will Do
Database Management & Maintenance: Install, configure, upgrade CU patches and manage Microsoft SQL Server environments (on-premises and cloud). This not only includes SQL but Window’s cluster configuration as well.
Performance Tuning & Optimization: Proactively monitor database performance, identify bottlenecks, and optimize complex T-SQL queries, indexes, and database configurations.
High Availability & Disaster Recovery: Design, implement, and maintain high availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) solutions, including Always On Availability Groups, failover clustering, as well as Standalone servers.
Security & Compliance: Implement and manage database security policies, manage user access/permissions, and ensure data encryption and compliance with corporate and regulatory standards.
Backup & Recovery: Oversee routine database backups, test recovery plans, and ensure databases are meeting their RPO/RTO specifications. In could quarterly test recovery drills.
Automation: Develop and maintain automation scripts using PowerShell or T-SQL for routine DBA tasks, deployments, and monitoring alerts.
Mentorship: Provide technical guidance and best practices to other database administrators and development teams.
What You Will Bring
Minimum of 10 years of hands-on experience as a SQL Server DBA in a medium to large enterprise environment.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent work experience)
Expert-level knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server (versions 2008 through current).
Strong proficiency in writing and optimizing complex T-SQL.
Extensive experience with HA/DR technologies (Always On Availability Groups, Clustering).
Solid understanding of database performance troubleshooting tools (SQL Profiler, Extended Events, Query Store).
Experience with PowerShell scripting for database automation.
Nice to have, experience with MariaDB and PostgreSQL
Familiarity with Azure SQL Database.
