POSITION SUMMARY : The Nuclear Steam Supply System (NSSS) Component Engineering organization generates technical requirements and associated design parameters for the modular advanced light water reactor (ALWR) NSSS. Utilizing proven state-of-the-art methodologies, NSSS components are engineered to nuclear industry standards. The person in this position performs design and stress analyses of pressure vessels, reactor vessel internals, and/or primary equipment supports in accordance with ASME BPVC Section III and applicable regulatory requirements. All work within the NSSS Component Engineering organization is completed under ASME NQA-1 quality assurance requirements and respective U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission guidelines.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs and documents evaluations of components to the rules and requirements of Section III of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code including but not limited to analysis of components for pressure, mechanical/thermal loadings including Primary Stress, Primary plus Secondary stress intensity range, and Fatigue. Utilizes the results from these evaluations to optimize component(s) design.
Direct experience with ANSYS finite element software and CAD packages.
Interprets scope and project requirements.
Acquires, maintains and develops training qualifications.
Interacts with co-workers and other disciplines to promote effective coordination of design activities and resolution of technical problems. Individuals should be interested in acquiring general knowledge of principles and practices of related fields in order to function on multi-disciplinary teams.
