Job Summary The Orthoptist analyzes and treats patients with dysfunctions of binocularity and/or ocular motility. Examines patients to diagnose and treat abnormal eye motor movements, partial vision, and determination of presence of fusion. Triages patients in the absence of the ophthalmologist and organizes vision screening in community schools. Pay Range Minimum $39.49 Midpoint $52.33 Maximum $65.16 Rate of pay is determined by various factors, including but not limited to knowledge, skills, competencies, experience, education, as well as position requirements. Experience • Required: Minimum two (2) years of experience working as an Orthoptist. Education • Required: Bachelor’s degree in related field. • Preferred: Bachelor's Degree and successful completion of a two year, nationally recognized accredited Orthoptic Program. Training • Required: Knowledge of medical terminology, infection control techniques, and age-related acuity levels. Must be competent in collecting and interpreting data about the patient's status in order to identify each patient's age specific needs. Specialized Skills • Required: Ability to maintain flexibility and work well in a constantly changing environment. Works within scope of practice. Able to evaluate and document the patient/family response to care. Ability to set goals and judge results in accordance with the highest standards and respect; advance care through development of new ideas and technology; promote teamwork to achieve CHOC's mission; and understand and exceed customer expectations, effectively solve complex patient care and organizational problems, role model positive and professional behavior. Excellent organization skills; excellent critical thinking, judgment, and problem-solving skills. Licensure • Required: Basic Life Support (BLS).
