We are seeking a Pain Management Physician (MD or DO) who wants a collaborative inpatient role focused on helping patients control pain, improve function, and participate more fully in rehabilitation.
Overview & Highlights
Setting: Acute rehabilitation hospitals
Schedule: Monday-Friday hospital rounding; weekend coverage as needed
Compensation: $300,000-$400,000 annually
Contract: 1099 independent contractor
Focus: Inpatient acute and chronic pain management, multimodal treatment, rehabilitation support, and continuity of care
Location & Logistics
Work Environment: Inpatient acute rehabilitation
Coverage Model: Hospital rounding in collaboration with internal medicine, rehabilitation teams, nursing, and other specialists
Call Expectations: Weekend coverage as needed
Start Timeline: We are hiring for the right long-term fit and can be flexible on timing. We welcome physicians available immediately as well as those considering a planned transition over the next 12-24 months.
About the Opportunity / A Day in the Life
In this role, you will manage acute and chronic pain for patients receiving inpatient rehabilitation. You will evaluate each patient's medical history, medications, diagnostic findings, functional goals, and rehabilitation progress to develop an individualized pain management plan.
Treatment may include medication management, nonpharmacologic therapies, and strategies coordinated with the patient's rehabilitation plan. You will monitor treatment effectiveness and medication safety while helping patients achieve realistic pain and functional goals.
You'll work closely with internal medicine physicians, rehabilitation clinicians, nursing, and other specialists. When appropriate, you will identify patients who may benefit from interventional pain evaluation, outpatient palliative care, or additional specialty services following discharge.
The role also includes patient and family education, goals-of-care discussions when clinically appropriate, and coordination of safe transitions from the hospital to outpatient care.
