Responsibilities Hospital Coder - RHIT, CPC (full-time) Position Status: Non-Exempt – Full-Time (1.0 fte); subject to over-time Location: Hybrid eligible, based on experience and training/orientation Schedule: Monday – Friday Pay Range: $25.69 - $33.24 /per hour (DOE - based on experience/certification status) - benefitted The Hospital Coder is responsible for accurately assigning codes to diagnoses and procedures performed during a patient's hospital stay, utilizing classification systems such as ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and CPT. As a Hospital Coder, you play a vital role in ensuring that every medical service a patient receives during their hospital stay is accurately documented and translated into universal healthcare codes. This role plays a critical part in the healthcare revenue cycle, ensuring proper reimbursement, accurate data for research and public health reporting, and compliance with all coding regulations and guidelines. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Abstracts pertinent information from patient records. Assigns ICD-9/10 CM or HCPCS codes, for billing (both hospital and clinics) as appropriate. Queries physicians when code assignments are not straightforward or documentation in the record is inadequate, ambiguous, or unclear for coding purposes. Assist with bill problem resolution, researches and communicates guidelines for billable services. Assist in the Riverview Health Charge master with applicable coding guidelines and Riverview policies and procedure. Assist in working with clinical directors and helping to implement CDM changes. Assist with hospital and clinic departmental charge masters. Remains current with coding guidelines and reimbursement reporting requirements. Brings identified concerns to Lead Coder or Director of HIM for resolution. Abides by the Standards of Ethical Coding as set forth by the American Health Information Management Association and American Medical Association and adheres to official coding guidelines. Other…
