Niko Engineering is looking for an experienced Power Systems Protection Engineer to join our specialist engineering team.
We work with leading electricity-sector clients across New Zealand, delivering protection, secondary systems, fault studies, commissioning support and multidisciplinary power projects. We're particularly interested in Senior and Principal engineers but will also consider Intermediate engineers with strong technical foundations and the desire to grow.

What you'll work on
Depending on your experience, your work may include:
Developing protection schemes, philosophies, and detailed designs.
Protection setting calculations, coordination studies, and technical reviews.
Power system modelling, fault investigations, and system studies.
Numerical relay configuration and secondary systems design.
Site inspections, testing, and commissioning support.
Technical reporting, client engagement, and multidisciplinary project delivery.
At Senior or Principal level, the role may also include technical review, project leadership, client engagement, mentoring and the development of new project opportunities.
What you'll bring
A tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent relevant industry experience.
Experience in power-system protection, settings, and secondary-systems.
A sound understanding of power-system behaviour, faults and protection principles.
The ability to produce high-quality technical documentation and communicate effectively with clients and project teams.
The ability to communicate complex engineering matters clearly with clients, project teams and other technical specialists.
A collaborative approach and commitment to technical excellence.
Desirable Experience
Experience with any of the following would be advantageous:
DIgSILENT PowerFactory or similar modelling software.
IEC 61850, DNP3 or SCADA integration.
Numerical relay configuration.
Protection testing and commissioning.
New Zealand utility standards and practices.
CPEng, or progress towards registration.
