Analytical labs everywhere depend on reference standards to know their results are right. Our Reference Standards team makes those standards. We're looking for a hands-on chemist who enjoys synthesis and purification work and wants to see their materials become products that labs rely on every day. In this role, you'll synthesize, purify, and develop materials for our Reference Standards Business Unit. You'll also look for ways to make our processes better. You'll work closely with Operations and cross-functional teams across Restek, and you'll have room to take ownership of your work from day one. What You'll Do Synthesize and purify materials using established SOPs, and develop procedures for basic purification and derivatization of raw materials and solutions. Develop and manufacture materials using current synthetic and purification methods, techniques, and instrumentation, making sure products meet quality standards and production demand. Design and run process improvement experiments, collect and analyze data, and turn results into better products and processes. Document your experiments and procedures, and write reports on experimental design, results, and conclusions. Share project progress through monthly reports and staff meetings. Serve as a go-to technical resource for Operations Technicians. This includes answering questions, training others on core techniques, and helping keep SOPs current. Take part in Job Safety Analysis (JSA) activities and follow Environmental Health & Safety guidelines to keep our lab and production spaces safe. What You'll Bring The typical requirements for this role include a minimum of a bachelor's degree in chemistry or a related field or the equivalent combination of education and experience. Additional skills and abilities include the following: Hands-on laboratory experience in synthesis and purification, whether from coursework, research, or industry. The ability to take on moderately complex work, set your own priorities, and work with minimal direction from senior scientists. Careful, thorough documentation habits and attention to detail. Comfort explaining techniques clearly and helping others build their skills. This position will require the successful completion of a standard background check in accordance with Restek policy. Employment with Restek will require successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen.
