Senior Backend Developer
Java + microservices — senior IC with mentorship responsibility
Company: Valeo Health
Location: Bengaluru — Work from Office (WFO)
Reporting to: Engineering Manager (Backend) / Head of Engineering
About Valeo Health
Valeo Health is a preventive healthcare and wellness platform operating across Saudi Arabia (KSA) and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), offering diagnostics, teleconsultation, AI-driven health insights, supplements, and care programs. We are building AI-first, compliant, and scalable
healthcare platforms that handle sensitive health data while delivering reliable, high-quality customer experiences across geographies.
Role Overview
We are looking for a Senior Backend Developer with deep experience in Java and microservices to build, scale, and operate the backend systems that power Valeo’s healthcare platform across KSA and UAE. You will own services end to end — design, build, ship, operate — while mentoring junior engineers and raising the technical bar of the team. This is a senior individual-contributor role focused on technical depth. You will spend most of your time writing code, designing systems, and reviewing your peers’ work. You will not manage people, but you will mentor 2–3 junior engineers, drive technical standards, and be the senior voice in architecture decisions for your area. It is the right role if you want to grow as an engineer rather than into management.
The Mindset We Hire For
These three traits matter more than any specific framework on your CV. If they don’t describe you, this is not the right role.
• Ownership: You don’t wait for permission. When a service you own breaks, you fix it. When a junior engineer is stuck, you pair with them. When the design is unclear, you write it down.
• Deliver Results : You measure yourself in services shipped and reliability improved, not PRs merged. You can tell us what you built last quarter, what changed for users or the business because of it, and what you would do differently.
• Quick to Learn : You taught yourself something significant in the last three months and can describe it without preparation — a new framework, architecture pattern, or operational tool.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Ownership
• Design, build, and operate Java-based microservices that handle sensitive healthcare data at scale.
• Own technical design for services in your area — write design docs, lead design reviews, make architecture tradeoffs.
• Maintain high standards for code quality, testing, observability, and operational excellence.
• Debug production issues across services; own root-cause analysis and remediation.
• Drive performance, reliability, and cost improvements in owned services.
Mentorship
• Mentor 2–3 junior backend engineers through pairing, code reviews, and design reviews.
• Run technical brown-bags and learning sessions for the backend team — share patterns, post-mortem learnings, new tools.
• Help juniors…
