The opportunity:
This role owns the controllership and financial reporting engine of a business that collects fees from thousands of students across 20+ campuses and settles revenue with university partners under collaboration agreements. It is a high-ownership seat: you will report directly to the CFO, hold the statutory and control agenda end-to-end, and lead a team of four.
What makes this role distinctive. Virohan's finance function is deliberately lean and supported by established outsourced partners for transaction processing, GST and TDS. This role is therefore designed as an owner of the control framework and a manager of providers — not a preparer of entries. You will spend your time on judgement, controls, audit and reporting quality rather than on volume processing. You will also have direct exposure to the Board, investors and lenders through the CFO.
Role purpose:
To own statutory accounting, the monthly close, audit, taxation, compliance and the control environment for Virohan — producing reporting the Board, investors, lenders and auditors can rely on, and building the control maturity appropriate to a company moving through Series C and beyond.
Key responsibilities:
1. Financial Close & Reporting
Own monthly, quarterly and annual financial close, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
Lead statutory financial statements, provisions, reconciliations, revenue recognition and accounting accuracy.
Prepare MIS and lender/investor reporting in partnership with the CFO.
2. Internal Controls, Risk & Governance
Design and own the internal control framework across P2P, O2C, payroll, treasury and reporting.
Establish segregation of duties, approval matrices, maker-checker controls and risk mitigation mechanisms.
Own IFC/ICFR, statutory audits, related-party reporting and closure of audit observations.
Support fundraising diligence and maintain robust finance documentation and control testing.
3. Taxation & Compliance
Own GST, TDS, RCM, 15CA/CB and other direct/indirect tax compliance.
Manage tax notices, statutory filings and compliance calendars with zero-default accountability.
Review tax-related clauses in partner and vendor contracts.
4. Payroll & Labour Compliance
Own end-to-end payroll finance, including validation, disbursement, reconciliation and accounting.
Ensure compliance with PF, ESIC, PT, LWF, gratuity, TDS and applicable labour laws across locations.
Strengthen payroll controls and partner with HR on payroll policies and statutory changes.
5. Accounts Receivable & Collections
Own student fee receivables, ageing, collections and cash conversion across campuses.
Lead university partner settlements, reconciliations and dispute resolution.
Oversee revenue accruals, discounts, refunds, scholarships and dropout accounting.
Drive DSO reduction and strengthen controls around collections and reconciliations.
6. Accounts Payable & Vendor Management
Own the end-to-end procure-to-pay cycle,…
