Company:
Epogee is a food science and lipid chemistry company developing novel structured lipids for the food industry. Our flagship ingredient, EPG® (esterified propoxylated glycerol), is a patented fat alternative with 92% fewer calories than traditional fats. EPG can be used in a wide variety of food applications (e.g., frying and baking, as well as confectionery and snack applications).
About the Role Epogee is seeking a Principal Separation Scientist to join our analytical team, with a focus on HPLC and GC method development and execution in support of R&D discovery workstreams.
You will be the analytical “source of truth” to provide objective data to multiple simultaneous workstreams. A core part of the role is judgment: knowing what level of analytical rigor a given project actually needs, and recommending methods accordingly — whether that's fast directional data or a fully validated, regulatory-grade method. You'll also be integrating the latest AI tools to supercharge your work, from basic data analysis to supporting innovation with rapid iteration. This is a hands-on, laboratory-focused role for someone who wants to grow their career by deepening their technical knowledge of working with analytical equipment. You'll report to the Director of R&D, work alongside another member of the analytical team, and collaborate with scientists across the broader R&D group.
Responsibilities
Develop, optimize, and execute HPLC and GC/GC-MS methods for lipid and other molecular characterization, analyte quantitation, and impurity profiling
Support multiple discovery workstreams, coordinating closely with other team members
Recommend analytical approaches based on project stage and business need
Independently troubleshoot instrumentation, methods, and data anomalies
Support method validation, gauge R&R, and documentation for regulatory submissions (EFSA, US GRAS, Health Canada)
Continually grow your expertise by expanding into additional analytical techniques as needed, including rheology and benchtop NMR
Maintain rigorous documentation and data integrity standards
Partner with instrument vendors and service providers on qualification and maintenance
Requirements
MS or PhD in Analytical Chemistry, Chemistry, or related field
5+ years of hands-on HPLC and GC experience, ideally in food, lipid, or pharma chemistry
Demonstrated ability to independently troubleshoot instrumentation and methods
Strong judgment on matching analytical rigor to project stage and business need — comfortable moving fast when speed matters and being exacting when the situation calls for it
Detail-oriented with excellent documentation habits
Experience with rheology and/or benchtop NMR, or willingness to cross-train
Experience integrating AI tools into scientific or lab workflows
Enjoys hands-on lab work and wants to grow a career at the bench
Comfortable working closely within a small, cross-functional team
Benefits
This is a full-time, in-office role…
