Mindex is looking for a SchoolTool Software Engineering Manager to lead multiple engineering teams responsible for the continued development and evolution of our SchoolTool platform. This role combines people leadership, technical strategy, and operational excellence to help teams deliver secure, scalable, and customer-focused software solutions.
You'll play a key role in developing engineers, driving modern engineering practices, improving delivery processes, and partnering across Product, UX, QA, Support, and CloudOps to build high-quality products. We're looking for a collaborative leader who is passionate about coaching teams, leading through change, and advancing AI-assisted software development in a practical and measurable way.
We welcome candidates from a variety of locations; however, all candidates should be open to occasional in-person participation for business meetings, team events, or collaboration opportunities. Candidates located within approximately 35 miles of Rochester, NY may be asked to work from the office more frequently based on business or team needs.
Compensation $120,000 - $173,000
What You'll Accomplish
Lead, coach, and develop multiple software engineering teams through regular one-on-ones, performance feedback, career development, and mentorship
Foster a collaborative engineering culture focused on accountability, continuous learning, and high-quality software delivery
Support hiring, onboarding, workforce planning, and succession planning to build strong, scalable engineering teams
Drive delivery execution by managing priorities, balancing customer needs, technical debt, production support, and platform modernization initiatives
Coordinate release planning, OKRs, cross-team initiatives, risk management, and operational readiness to ensure successful product delivery
Partner with Product, UX, QA, Support, CloudOps, and other stakeholders to align priorities, manage dependencies, and deliver exceptional customer outcomes
Lead technical response efforts for production issues and customer-impacting incidents through effective coordination, communication, and resolution
Collaborate with senior engineers to define architectural direction, establish engineering standards, reduce technical risk, and improve platform maintainability
Advance software quality through improved engineering practices, automation, observability, security, and modernization efforts
Champion the adoption of AI-assisted software development across planning, coding, testing, documentation, and troubleshooting while promoting responsible AI practices and measurable team outcomes
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
7+ years of software engineering experience, including leadership or management responsibilities across multiple engineering teams or workstreams
