Solutions Engineer
Full time
Location: Remote in Australia (Sydney, Brisbane or Gold Coast preferred)
Mid/Senior role
25 to 30% travel to customer sites and offices
This isn't a demo-and-hand-off pre-sales role. We're looking for someone who can sit with a contractor's CFO in the morning and their payroll officer in the afternoon, then turn a messy EBA and cost-code setup into a Pay build that runs first time.
About Us: Building the OS for Construction
Assignar is a mission-led construction tech company, founded in 2014, with teams across North America and Australia. We help contractors plan, manage and optimise their crews, equipment and financial workflows in one place.
Assignar Pay is the layer between the field and finance for self-perform contractors. It connects what happens on site to payroll, invoicing and job costing, so the people running the business can trust their numbers.
Our mission is to empower the construction industry through digital innovation for a stronger, safer world.
What does "Solutions Engineer" actually mean here?
At a lot of companies, a Solutions Engineer runs demos and answers RFPs. At Assignar, you own the technical side of a Pay customer from first discovery call to first payroll.
You'll work out how a contractor actually pays their people, scope what they need, build and test it, and be there when it goes live. You'll partner with Sales, Customer Success and Implementation, and you'll be the person everyone trusts to get the detail right.
What you'll own
Run Pay discovery. Lead sessions with CFOs, GMs, owners, payroll and IT to understand how the business really runs, not just what's in the RFP.
Own the technical scope. Cost-code hierarchies, EBA interpretation, award rules and ERP integrations. You decide what gets built and why.
Deliver the build. Configure and test end to end, run the dry runs, and see the customer through their first live payroll.
Lead the implementation. Run kickoffs, set the plan and keep Sales, CS, Implementation and the customer accountable to it.
Get out on site. Visit job sites and offices, run workshops and deliver training. The best insight comes from watching the work happen.
Build the business case. Put together ROI cases and spot expansion opportunities with existing customers.
Lift the team around you. Work alongside our CSMs on Pay implementations until they're confident running one on their own.
Use AI as leverage. Use tools like Claude to interpret EBAs, draft configs and prep for discovery, while staying in control of the output and checking it properly.
Who you are
An experienced Solutions or Sales Engineer. Ideally from construction, ERP, payroll or finance software.
Fluent in construction finance. Job costing, payroll, EBAs and cost codes make sense to you, and you enjoy the complexity.
Credible with the CFO. You can hold your own with finance leaders and explain a technical trade-off in their language.
