The Opportunity:
Determines and reconciles vs accounting records VAT and Income Taxes (current and deferred under MX GAAP and US GAAP) reports. Prepares the corresponding returns. Responsible for eAccounting and Tax Stream reporting for Servicios Cientificos Especializados and VWR International. Provides auditors all information requested. MAJOR JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (List in order of importance)
Demonstrate a strong understanding of income tax regulations and accounting principles under both U.S. GAAP and Mexican GAAP.
Calculate current and deferred income taxes under Mexican GAAP and prepare and file the annual income tax return.
Calculate current and deferred income taxes under U.S. GAAP and report quarterly tax provisions through TaxStream to the Corporate Tax team.
Gather and analyze financial information, including trial balances, fixed asset reports, and supporting documentation, to prepare tax provisions and record the corresponding journal entries.
Reconcile invoices, credit memos, and debit memos recorded in SAP against tax records maintained on the Mexican Tax Authority's portal.
Perform monthly reconciliations of VAT paid and collected against VAT invoiced to customers and received from suppliers, including travel and expense (T&E) transactions.
Determine the monthly VAT position, prepare, file, and submit VAT returns in accordance with tax regulations.
Prepare and submit the monthly electronic trial balance (eAccounting) required by the Mexican tax authorities.
Review and ensure customer payments are applied and electronically stamped in a timely and accurate manner.
Prepare and provide all information requested by external auditors for financial statement and tax audits.
Support external auditors in the preparation of the annual statutory tax report.
Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS (Education/Training, Experience and Certifications)
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, CPA preferred
3+ years of experience in Corporate Income Tax departments in an international company or in the Tax Services area of any of the big accounting firms
Solid knowledge of VAT, eAccounting and eInvoicing Mexican tax laws
Solid knowledge of deferred taxes for Mexican & US GAAPs
Proficient with Microsoft Excel.
