Junior Power Generation Technical Specialist
Base Salary: $65,000 - $80,000 Annually Health Insurance: 100% employer-paid for you + your dependents Location: Huntley, IL Schedule: Onsite
LionHeart is a veteran-owned power generation company seeking a Power Generation Technical Specialist to support our field service team and build expertise in electrical and mechanical systems.
You’ll work alongside Electrical Engineers and experienced Field Service Veterans, supporting technicians as they troubleshoot and service mission-critical generators, ATS equipment, switchgear, controls and paralleling systems.
This is where careers in power systems begin. As Technical Communicator I, you will work directly alongside experienced engineers and field service technicians on emergency power supply systems (EPSS) installed across commercial, industrial, and critical-facility sites predominantly in the Chicagoland area and throughout the Midwest. You will learn by doing — touching real equipment, reading real schematics, and supporting real projects from day one — guided by a structured mentorship program designed to grow yourself into a well-rounded Power Systems Engineer over time.
This role is for motivated individuals who have graduated from a technical and/or engineering program with 0-5 years of industry experience who want to build deep, hands-on expertise in low and medium voltage power generation, controls, and system integration. If you are ready to learn, we are ready to invest.
Job Responsibilities
Assist field service technicians from an office setting during their day-to-day field work repairs, installations, testing, commissioning, and maintenance of EPSS — including generators, automatic transfer switches (ATS), switchgear, control equipment, and related auxiliary components.
Read, interpret, and markup electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical drawings under technical team’s guidance.
Field emergency calls from customers to ensure clear and correct scope is dispatched.
Support creation and upkeep of engineering documentation: schematics, component software files, technical manuals, maintenance logs, checklists, method of procedure (MOP) documents, and service reports.
Develop hands-on proficiency with generator systems, including diesel fuel systems, cooling systems, exhaust systems, and associated controls.
Build existing working knowledge of EPSS control systems including ANSI protective relays, and power distribution components. Basler, Schweitzer, etc.
Build existing working knowledge level of control systems regarding PLCs hardware and software: GE Fanuc 90-30, RX3i, etc hardware (and Proficy PME Software)
Schneider Modicon Quantum, Premium, TSX, M340, etc hardware (and EcoStruxure software).
Build existing working knowledge level of CAD tools for schematic markup and circuit analysis software (ETAP, SKM, or equivalent) with guidance provided.
